Forming a band is a great way to exercise one’s talents in playing musical instruments for it can make a person or a group of music-lovers rich, famous and professional. Before a person can create or join a band, he or she needs to know the concept and importance of bands. A band is a group of musicians who can produce good sounds, and perform with style, passion and elegance using musical instruments. One of the most important aspects of having band mates is knowledge through experiences. It can be attained by practicing how to control such instruments in order to master all procedures and techniques, and to make all his or her performances almost perfect. Also, skills and attitude must be talked about because almost all disbands are caused by rude qualities and unexplainable method of playing. Before going into a new band, one must be prepared enough to face the problems in the future in order for the group to stay together.
Starting up a new band requires difficult and sacrificial steps in order for its foundation to be strong and for the group to last long. There are three stages of band forming and each is called the beginning, non-professional, and professional stage. In the beginning stage, one must choose an instrument that best fits him or her according to his or her skill and ability to play it. After choosing the desired instrument, he or she needs to find new members so that the group will be complete. Naming the band is best when all members have wide of choices by means of symbolism or abstract naming. Names should be catchy so that listeners will be attracted faster and easier to the music they play. Aside from naming the group, they should also pick several genres or the type of music they want to play so they will be in harmony when playing their piece. The final step in the beginning stage is to coming up with a band agreement. This contract will offer copyrights for each member for on what he can do with the name and ownership of songs, equipments and other things.
The second stage in forming a band is the “Non-Professional” stage, wherein the group must think and act as one solid band for the people to recognize them. First, their time should be organized so they will have the time for practices. This is a good way to master their skills to become great musicians. They should also start composing their own songs so that they would not rely on other bands’ songs and they will have the originality for their songs. Next in the list of what to do in the non-professional stage is to record their first single or demo which they can broadcast or upload on the internet for mass distribution. Another way for them to be discovered is to search for gigs around the city. Not only can they be discovered by customers inside bars and restaurants, but they can also earn money which they can use for the group. There are some bands that use posters and flyers to show that they are one band, and the posters can be effective although expensive. For a band to be called professional, technically, it should have a recording contract from a recording company which will produce their albums for recordings and distribution.
After the recording deal has been signed, the band has now entered the third and final stage of band forming called “Professional” stage. As a professional band, they should have regular gigs and mall tours. One way to make these possible is to create a mailing list, where they search for gigs, venues and occasions. Because of the many songs already recorded and distributed, the group must now be able to come up with music videos for the viewers to see the theme or meaning of the song and the beauty of acting by the people involved in the video and directing by the director they picked. Signing a label is the most important part for a professional because it will give him or her benefits like the copyright of songs and videos, band copyright, more record deals and concerts, among others. Lastly, they must look for their manager, accountant, roadies and other persons for the band because playing as a band is like business where assets pour in from album sales and shares, and expenses pour out because of travel costs, income for band employees, and other financial aids and expenses.
There are many instances when bands suddenly disappear. Some causes of disbands are redundancy and repetition of songs, conflicts about equal sharing of income and talent fees, and the most common reason, miscommunication among band mates and other personalities. Like Eraserheads, the four members formed a band so solid that no one ever believed they will disband and continue to play as of today. Although bands break up, some good deeds are discovered by each member like teamwork, friendship, happiness as a group, and solidity of oneself. Schedule and priorities are critical factors to consider when it comes to being famous. Each member must create and organize his schedule and he or she must know what his or her priorities are, so conflicts between the band and outside responsibility will be lessened or, at most, avoided. Even if the challenges get tough and the responsibilities of each member of the band become heavier, there are many options to choose from for the band to go with the flow as anything goes. They must also react and adapt to changes for them not to be left behind by time and the people, and not to be criticized too negatively over and over again. The most important tip to remember for a band to last long is to know the specialty of each member because it can contribute to the stability, loyalty and fidelity of their relationship to one another. Forming a band is cool especially when one is talented and friendly enough. If anybody wants his or her band to last merely for decades, he or she just needs to be what he or she is. Just rock out and the rest that one wants to achieve will follow.
